I’m Dr Kate Paine, an Australian living in beautiful Switzerland with my partner and teenage daughter.

I have a PhD in Communication and Creative Arts and a Graduate Diploma in Professional Writing, both from Deakin University, Melbourne, Australia.

I’ve developed and delivered educational programmes and course material from primary to postgraduate level in Australia and the UK. I’ve also worked as a careers counsellor for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as a senior policy officer for Australia’s key vocational education and training authority, as a researcher and writer, and as an organisational and educational consultant to the non-profit sector.

I love helping people of all ages to become skilled and confident creators, thinkers, and writers.  I love writing but I also love the challenge of taking existing text and turning it into something beautiful that says exactly what the creator wants it to say.

My focus is on writing skills, both creative and academic, as well as research skills, from the planning stages onwards to completion. My own writing includes essays and creative nonfiction, poetry, and short and long fiction.

My other big love is music, and along with Writing and Research Skills,  I also have a music-teaching studio, in which I teach piano, singing, and musicianship skills:  www.discovering-music.com

I love teaching both writing and music. I think there are so many similarities, both in terms of the strategies I use when teaching  but also with regard to the creative process that comes into play when writing, composing,  improvising, and performing.

I couldn’t imagine doing one without the other ??
